Description
Short story:
The last and most perfect in the family of biplanes of the design bureau of N. N. Polikarpov was the I-153. It had a gull-shaped wing, retractable landing gear and more powerful armament with four ShKAS machine guns. The serial planes had M-62 radial engines, late series - the more powerful M-63.
The maiden flight took place in August 1938. In total, 3,437 aircraft were made in 1939-1941. In the summer of 1941, the I-153 "Czajka" ("Seagull") was the basis of the Soviet I-16 fighter aviation. I-153 were used in combat until mid-1943.
