Description
Short story:
Tempest is probably one of the best fighters of the Second World War. During the conflict, the opposing sides constantly competed with each other to keep up with the latest technological developments, resulting in ever more powerful and effective warplanes. In 1941, the new German fighter Fw 190 began to enter service, and in response, the British rushed to develop new versions of the Spitfire with the introduction of a new type called the Hawker Typhoon Mk.I. The entry into service of the Typhoon and its powerplant was not without some problems, and as Typhoon design limitations soon became apparent, Sydney Camm, Hawker's chief designer, began designing a new fighter aircraft partly based on the Typhoon. Since the number of changes to the original design was quite significant, the new aircraft was to be given a new name, the Hawker Tempest, and soon proved to be one of the best fighters of World War II.
And the Hawker Tempest set from Special Hobby provides the highest quality they have achieved so far in the field of 1:32 scale aircraft models.
Model details:
That's when the idea came up to offer the modeler a partial resin replica of the Tempest's power unit, the Napier Saber engine, which was designed in 3D with its main parts manufactured in a 3D printer to achieve the highest possible quality and accuracy.
In addition to the resin engine, the kit also includes detailed resin parts for the cockpit and resin wheels, a set of photo-etched parts (seat belt buckles and other detailed parts for the interior and exterior of the kit), pre-cut HGW laser seat belts, dust masks for the canopy, transparent parts and wheels.
Another addition not available in earlier versions of the Tempest Mk.V is an additional frame that offers missiles under the wings.
All in all, the kit contains nine gray styrene sprues and one clear sprue.
The surface of all main parts is covered with very precisely mapped rivet lines. A very nice feature of the kit is a detailed, colorful A4 instruction that will guide the modeler through the entire building process. The underwing weapon is designed for one of the five camouflage schemes of the set.
The modeller will be able to choose between the following models: Le Grand Charles, the machine of the best French ace pilot Pierre Clostermann, Tempest EJ750/JBW, WgCdr J.B.Wray's personal mount, Tempest EJ762/JJ-F with F /L DCFairbanks DFC and Two Bars ( 12.5 kills), the Belgian pilot F/O GARens' Tempest SN206/5R-B and the silver post-war Tempest SN330/J5-H with S/L RBCole, DFC and Bar which is a machine to be fitted with missiles underneath.
The decal sheet also comes with a full set of stencils, including stencils for the cockpit and fuel tanks.
