Short story:
The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat turbofan-powered attack aircraft. The first flight of the prototype took place in 1972, and serial production took place in 1975-1984. A total of 715 copies of this aircraft were built. The main task of the A-10 was to combat Warsaw Pact armored weapons in Central and Western Europe. It was also intended to balance the quantitative advantage of the USSR over NATO troops in armored weapons. Such a task meant that the aircraft is characterized by great resistance to damage, unparalleled in other assault machines, armored cockpit and overall very high durability of the structure.
