MIRAGE 480005 1:48 Halberstadt CL.II Photographic & Reconaissance Version With Crew & Ground Personnel For Fliegerabteilung Artillerie FA(A) Units

Short Story:

The Halberstadt CL.II was designed by Dipl. Ing. Karl Theis as the first in the series of CL aircraft. Until then the Halberstädter Flugzeugwerke GmbH (HFW) factory manufactured training aircraft under licence and D-series fighters. The Halberstadt C.II two-seater was built in the ‘C’ class to a contract from the Idflieg (Inspection der Fliegertruppen). These were fitted with the then latest 160 hp Mercedes engine. The machines were first flown already in early May 1917. Subsequent tests proved so successful that the Idflieg earmarked the type for series production.

First production Halberstadt CL.IIs reached the Armee-Flug-Park (AFP; Army Aircraft Park that dealt with aircraft distribution, supply and repairs) at the front line already at the end of July 1917. The spacious cabin of the pilot and the gunner-observer housed photographic and radio equipment, thanks to which the aircraft successfully in the first phase of its use supplied units for cooperation with the Artillery - Fliegerabteilung Artillerie FA(A). The plane was modified until the end of the war, but these were minor modifications that did not significantly affect the shape of the airframe, only its performance...
